Rene' Holaday (R) for County Commissioner, Pos. #2
|
While I am running as a Republican, I firmly believe that the issues we are facing right now, are issues that have little to nothing to do with party preferences. I believe that party preference has nothing to do with people having their water and private property rights threatened. When I am elected into office, I look forward to helping to educate the other elected officials on the research I have been doing for the last 4 years. I will push for County Resolutions against: NAIS(now re-named ADT), the provisions of the Patriot Act, Gun Control, REAL ID/POSITIVE ID, Sustainable Development.I am not afraid to take a tough stand against anything that is "Repugnant to the Constitution" of this State or the Nation. |

My background and why I am the best candidate to represent you in the Washington Legislature:Elected Experience: none Other Professional Experience: 30-year career with Coast Guard retiring as a Captain USCGR, with command leadership duties in port security, marine safety and naval warfare. I was NW project officer for CG streamlining initiative and worked international affairs for the USCG Commandant. Principal in multi-million dollar real estate investment firm for 40 years providing rental housing in Kitsap and King Counties. Education: BA Hobart College 1972, National Security programs at Naval War College and National Defense University, Washington D.C. Community Service: volunteer Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, St. Cecilia's Parish, Boy Scouts of America. Biography: Washington State is dangerously burdened by excessive government spending, excessive growth in government employment, lack of clear core-mission focus. This condition is detrimental to the well-being of all Washington citizens and I will work tirelessly to end that. In my capacity as a business owner and in my 30 years as a Coast Guard officer I sought challenging assignments constrained by severe budget retraints and complex organizational challenges. I know how to lead people and to focus on the core missions. I know first-hand what it means to live within a budget and to drive maximum efficiency from both CG command assignments and my private business. I know what it means to be accountable for costs, worker performance and customer satisfaction. I know what vision is. People and businesses have choices where they live and if Washington's natural and business environments are allowed to deteriorate, Washington will see our quality of life deteriorate. Washington government must be restructured to reign in monsterously large agencies where cost-accounting and accountablity are lacking. I will champion legislation to streamline and restructure Department of Social and Health Services and Washington Department of Transportation. Position 1: Pete DeBoer (R) (replace Sherry Appleton)
|
A lifetime of service to my country and community brings me to this campaign. Washington's future depends on our ability to educate our children and encourage business to stay here and prosper. My experience building a green business, creating passenger ferry service from Kingston to Seattle without raising taxes and operating Coast Guard units on lean budgets qualifies me for this challenging position.Washington's future is bright. If we get our budget priorities in order we can put more education dollars in the classroom and manage and protect our beautiful waterways without raising more taxes. |

Senator: Marty McClendon (R) (replace Derek Kilmer!)
|
I am a strong fiscal conservative who will be a watchdog for your money in Olympia. We must conserve resources and invest wisely to stimulate jobs and our economy. My opponent participated in the government spending explosion before our current economic downturn. He raised spending 33% and voted for $500 million in new taxes. When the inevitable crash came from his out-of-control spending, he slashed funding for our schools and voted to raise class sizes. This year, my opponent refused to come up with a solution for the fiscal crises he created. He could have joined with those who wanted to reform state government and cut spending, but instead remained silent. In these tough times, we need leadership not more of the same. We must change business as usual in Olympia. I will fight for sustainable budgets. We cannot continue to spend more than we have. If we prioritize spending and reform state government, we can fully fund critical needs like education and health care rather than funding paybacks for political supporters. State government is broken - but by changing our elected representatives - we can fix it. My name is Marty McClendon, and I humbly ask for your vote. |

Service, Integrity and Leadership are critical in my family and professional life. These attributes have guided me in the military, as a small business owner, community servant, and family man. As our state increases our tax burden and piles debt on our children, I am concerned for our future. With my experience, I will work to create transparency in government, alleviate the burdens on small business and provide support for our families, our veterans, and our public servants. This community deserves a representative who listens and gets things done. I will be that representative. Doug Richards: Service, Integrity, Leadership |

Position 1: Jan Angel (R) (re-elect Jan Angel!)
|
Jan Angel spent her first term fighting taxes and uncontrolled spending. It's disrespectful for government to spend more than it takes in, burdening families with higher taxes. Many are laid off or had hours and pay reduced. Jan is working to strengthen our economy and get you back to work! You can't raise taxes on small businesses and expect to create jobs. Rather than pass the buck to local school districts, Jan believes we should fund education first, removing politics from education."I continue to fight for accountability, efficiency and transparency... things you should expect from your government." Senator Tim Sheldon is a native of the 35th District. He is known as a legislator who works with members of all political parties to find common-sense solutions to local and State problems.Senator Sheldon has dedicated his life to public service, making him an extremely effective advocate for his district and the safety and well-being of his constituents. He regularly surveys the voters of his district, and consistently votes to uphold their views. He never sacrifices the needs of his constituents to support a party-line vote. Senator Sheldon has adamantly refused to vote for new taxes, and has worked tirelessly for State government reforms like privatization of the State liquor monopoly, which will save millions of dollars for the people. He's a strong supporter of better local notification when high-risk sex offenders are released into our communities. He has a strong history of job creation and transportation infrastructure improvements. Of the 625 recorded votes in the 2010 legislative session, Senator Sheldon was present and voted on every bill. He sent a "report card" of his votes to his constituents, as he does after every session. He serves with integrity and total commitment to his district. |

We require the state to live within its means. We eliminate unnecessary spending and bureaucracy. We stimulate the growth and prosperity of small businesses and agriculture. We develop and implement a successful plan to reform our education system. I need your help to bring back common sense and accountability in governance. |

James Watkins (R) for U.S. Congress (replace Jay Inslee!)
|
Our nation is in the midst of an economic and fiscal crisis. Congressional leaders are on the wrong track--- and spending us into ruin. Jay Inslee has supported their ill-conceived measures 99% of the time. We need a fresh approach and independent leadership that doesn't always follow the party line.Mr. Inslee voted for a trillion dollar stimulus that didn't work; a Cap and Trade scheme that will send more jobs overseas; government mandated healthcare that robs $500 billion from Medicare, federal internet regulation, and a dramatic expansion of government with trillion dollar deficits for our kids. This staggering debt hurts the value of the dollar in your pocket, and the ability of our nation to defend itself in a dangerous world. We need affordable, common-sense policies that encourage a sound economy with family jobs that protect our unique Northwest quality of life. That's why I'm running. I'm not a politician. I'm a father and small business expert - a practical problem solver with proven business and leadership experience. I want to make sure our kids inherit a better America. I've cut federal spending at the agency level - and helped create thousands of jobs in the private sector. More jobs are the solution to our current economic mess. I'll bring common sense policies to Congress to boost job creation. And, I'll fight to stop spending money we don't have, streamline government, honor our veterans, and end the influence of special interests. I will work for you, not the lobbyists. I have the support of Attorney General Rob McKenna and thousands of Republicans, Democrats, and independents who want to create real jobs, respect Constitutional freedoms, and restore fiscal responsibility in Washington DC. With your vote, we can restore the promise of the American dream for our children and grandchildren. |

John Koster (R) for U.S. Congress (replace Rick Larsen!)
|
I grew up on a dairy farm where my parents taught me how to work and the value of a dollar. They taught me about the American Dream, that America is great, and that the American free enterprise system is the greatest economic system ever devised. I operated the family farm for 25 years and raised my family there. My wife, Vicki, and I have been married for 39 years and we are blessed with four children and nine grandchildren. I'm running for Congress, to do what needs to be done to get Americans back to work. Under current policies our children and grandchildren will not have the same opportunities that I was afforded thanks to a runaway big-government agenda that has been rubber-stamped by our current elected representative. Over the last ten years, Rick Larsen and Nancy Pelosi have put a government bureaucrat between you and your doctor, raised taxes, increased wasteful spending, raised the debt ceiling, limited personal freedoms, and saddled our families with an unconscionable $13 trillion national debt. Each and every American's share of this debt is over $42,000! I support balancing the nation's budget by law. We simply cannot continue to pile debt upon future generations. My top priority will be to put a stop to the massive spending spree Congress has been on for too long. There is a fundamental difference between myself and the incumbent. Larsen believes failed government bailouts are the answer. I believe that the American people, using their ingenuity and creativity within the free enterprise system, are the answer to our economic woes. Our nation's economy can be great again. Double-digit unemployment is not acceptable and must be overcome. This will happen when we elect a common sense congressional representative who listens to the people and understands free market principles. |

Jaime Herrera (R) for U.S. Congress (Brian Baird is quitting!)
|
Washington DC is broken and its priorities are wrong. Overspending is hurting jobs and our economy today, and threatens America's future. I'm not a typical candidate. I'm part of a new generation of leadership with a new direction. I grew up here in Southwest Washington. As a State Representative I voted to cut spending, lower taxes and balance government budgets. I will do the same in Congress because that's how we'll restore permanent jobs to this region.Other candidates talk about "jobs," but their policies are for more government-first programs and crippling debt, and their only solution is job-killing higher taxes. Today's politicians believe spending will solve this economic crisis, not realizing that spending itself is causing the crisis. I will put far more value on saving your money than spending your money. I support a Constitutional Balanced Budget Amendment to curb federal spending and ease the financial burden that families and small businesses must pay. My goal is to create an atmosphere where entrepreneurs and small businesses can succeed, with no bailouts for those the politicians say are "too big to fail." I've promoted health care solutions that actually increase access and lower costs, and I've fought for small businesses and families in my district. My first bill as a state legislator was giving tax relief to small business owners serving in the military. Our federal government has a responsibility to the men and women serving in our armed forces to supply them and support them, both while they defend our freedoms and upon their safe return to us. I'll ensure Congress lives up to this responsibility. I'm Jaime Herrera, it's time to take our country back from the crippling policies that hurt Southwest Washington, and I ask for your vote to represent you in Congress. |

Bill Hoffman (D) for Congress (replace Jim McDermott!!!!!)
|
I don't answer to Washington DC, lobbyists or party insiders. I'm a 5th generation Seattleite, motivated environmentalist and advocate for income tax reform (progressive, three tiered federal tax). I believe that we need to spur green and traditional job growth. I'm for legislation that will help businesses and am myself a small business owner, yet I'm pro-union and for worker's rights. I'm for accountability; strict regulatory control of big financial institutions; fixing our foreclosure mess; clearing our horrendous traffic; supporting the arts; eliminating earmarks for pet projects; reducing poverty. I have a long history of supporting equal rights (including reproductive freedom) and full, equal marriage rights for all. My support for civil rights is unwavering. I believe public education must be fully funded. I'm for campaign finance reform and term limits. I pledge to help local community groups. Unlike Representative McDermott (22 years in Congress), I'm opposed to: reinstating the draft; supporting free trade (that hurts the poor overseas and destroys jobs in the US); earmarks for windowsills for a ritzy, private club; legalizing online gambling by taxing it; violating the law over a taped telephone conversation. Congressmen are not above the law. I'm also opposed to obstructionism: McDermott was alone in voting against a mine safety bill and alone in his delegation in opposing a bill that would have given the FDA new authority to protect the public. According to an article in Crosscut.com ('The Progressive Case Against Jim McDermott' - 7/8/2008), "Despite McDermott's seniority, his power within Congress is abysmal ... he has virtually no influence and little impact on legislation." Rep. McDermott has grown staid in over two decades in office. I'm a new voice. I offer a fresh approach to "politics as usual." Please join with me in an effort to help our wonderful, but troubled nation. |

Stationed at McChord AFB, I married the love of my life Mary, settled down in my adopted hometown of Steilacoom and raised four children who are now married and having our grandchildren.Future generations will not have the same quality of life we enjoy if the out-of-control spending by the incumbents is not stopped. This generational theft threatens the economic vitality and future of our country. Our government has taxed, borrowed, and spent an exorbitant amount of your money. Every American owes over $40,000 on behalf of the government. Record deficits and lack of smart oversight have mangled the job market and hurt small business growth. The incumbent speaks like a moderate, but his voting record essentially follows Nancy Pelosi and the liberal congress. With so-called "Obamacare", the failed stimulus package, special interest earmarks, corporate bailouts, cap and trade (an enormous domestic energy tax increase), and increased foreign aid, the incumbent has ballooned our debt and reliance on foreign countries. My votes will support federal priorities of ensuring a good business climate for job creation, supporting military families and veterans, giving control of educational priorities to local school boards, promoting energy independence, preserving our beautiful environment, and protecting our borders from illegal aliens. I am proud to be endorsed by Attorney General Rob McKenna, the Lakewood Police Independent Guild, numerous elected officials throughout Washington State, and thousands of private citizens who are concerned about the direction of our country. I encourage you to visit DickMuri.com to learn about my solutions and strategies to strengthen our country. We need a congressman who votes the way he talks. America is a great nation; we must have responsible solutions to our problems, and a sustainable federal government that adheres to our Constitution's enumerated powers. |

Dino Rossi (R) for U.S. Senate (replace Patty Murray)

Our country is in trouble. Congress has mortgaged America's future by passing trillion dollar budget deficits, wasteful stimulus packages, and Wall Street bailouts.Instead of acting to help our economy and create jobs, Congress has amassed massive debt our children and grandchildren will have to pay. Instead of encouraging job growth, the government has taken over everything from banks to car companies to the student loan program. Instead of helping families by making health care affordable, Congress' bill will increase premiums and taxes while slashing Medicare. Their approach has failed. Washington's unemployment rate is dangerously close to 10%, our national debt has soared past $13 trillion, and taxes on working families keep rising. Our economy is headed for a breaking point, with no end in sight. But we can't change direction until we change the political leadership that seems more interested in their political ambitions than in getting things done. My plan is simple: Cut the massive growth in federal spending that has created these huge deficits and will double our national debt in five years. Pass a Balanced Budget Amendment, because neither Republicans nor Democrats in Washington, DC have any discipline when spending your money. Fix the tax code to reward work, saving, and the investments that create jobs while closing special interest loopholes that favor the politically connected. Replace the health care bill and reform health care by taking power away from big government and insurance companies and giving it back to patients and their doctors. Finally, I know America's best days are ahead of us, if only we unleash the energy and talent of the American people and get government back to its proper, more limited role. That will be my mission as your Senator. I ask for your vote on Election Day. |

Initiative 1093: Proposed Washington State Sales Tax
|
| Bill Gates Sr., a wealthy lawyer whose son is among the richest men on the planet, wants to give Washington state an income tax. To win votes, the ballot measure resorts to all sorts of trickery. Unions describe the initiative as tax "relief" because it includes a mandatory cut in the hated property tax (only by 4%) and it eliminates various unpopular fees and taxes on business. Still, the overall impact of the measure is a $1.5 billion tax increase in 2012 and $2.5 billion a year by 2016... |

Initiative 1053: Restoring the Two-thirds Vote Requirement for Tax Increases
by Jason Mercier |
| In November the people of Washington will vote on Initiative 1053. The measure would reinstate the state law requiring that tax increases be adopted with a two-thirds vote in the Legislature. Earlier this year state lawmakers repealed the two-thirds vote requirement until July 1, 2011. Washington Policy Center has long recommended the two-thirds vote requirement to raise taxes as an important protection for taxpayers. Such a policy serves the public interest by limiting the financial burden state government places on the people. |

Washington State Judicial Candidates Primary Review 2010

| Not all the Cominus' picks have solid credentials. Some are lesser of evils. So, this year, we have begun a star rating system. 5 stars means the candidate is at least 90% solid; 4 stars, at least 80%; 3 stars, at least 70%, 2 stars, at least 50%, 1 star is less than 50%, but better than the opponent. If we are not sure, but the candidate is favored over the other evil, we will guesstimate a 2 or 3 star rating. Hope this is helpful. |

Re-elect Richard B. Sanders for WA Supreme Court
|
A Supreme Court Justice must uphold the highest ethical standards, working to assure that government is open and the rights of citizens are protected. It has been my honor to serve on our state's highest court since 1995 and to follow these standards.Article 1, Section 1 of our Constitution states: "governments...are established to protect and maintain individual rights." I believe that's the job description of a Justice also: we must look out for the individual citizen and protect our Constitutional rights. Sometimes this makes me seem conservative, as when I support property rights, and sometimes it makes me seem liberal, as when I call on the federal government to end the unconstitutional treatment of prisoners. But I am consistent: we have rights the government must not violate. Thomas Jefferson said the God who gave us life gave us liberty at the same time. It's a good thought to remember. Justice Sanders attracts support that cuts across the spectrum, with endorsements including: Democratic and Republican Senators; the State Republican and Libertarian Parties; judges and civil libertarians; the Association of Washington Business and union members -- more than 1,000 endorsers. Vote to reelect Justice Richard Sanders. |
