WHY MEN NEVER REMEMBER AND WOMEN NEVER FORGET
|
| Neither men nor women can claim that their brains are "better." While men's brains are 10% larger on average, women's brains have more elaborate connections that make them more efficient. Male and female brains unquestionably are different, in terms of both structure and chemistry, and that can cause problems when we try to communicate with one another. Most of us speak to our spouses just as we would speak to members of our own sex—then wonder why they don't seem to understand. Here's how to communicate more effectively with the opposite sex... |

Save a Life--Learn Continuous Chest Compression CPR
|
| Every three days, more Americans die from sudden cardiac arrest than the number who died in the 9-11 attacks. You can lessen this recurring loss by learning Continuous Chest Compression CPR, a hands-only CPR method that doubles a person's chance of surviving cardiac arrest. It's easy and does not require mouth-to-mouth contact, making it more likely bystanders will try to help, and it was developed at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. This video is worth sharing. |

Laugh for Better Blood Vessels
|
| Laugh your way to better blood vessel function by watching a funny flick. Laughter relaxes blood vessels and increases blood flow -- the exact opposite of what your blood vessels do when you are stressed. In a small study of healthy men and women with normal blood pressure, watching a funny movie increased blood flow by about 22 percent. If funny movies aren't your style, spend time with the people who tickle your funny bone. RealAge Benefit: Laughing often can make your RealAge up to 8 years younger. How to talk to a man. There's a reason he doesn't hear what you're saying
|
| It seems there is no bigger difference between men and women — and no difference that causes more friction — than the way we communicate with each other. Over and over, I hear friends and patients say, "Sometimes talking to the man in my life is like banging my head against a brick wall. He just doesn't listen, or he's irritated and doesn't respond." It's not that men don't listen or don't care. Rather, new research shows, they process what they hear differently than women do, quite possibly because of differences in their brain chemistry, structure and activity... |

How to Remove Ticks from People or Pets (also tips and warnings)
by ehow.com |
| Ticks will soon be showing their heads. Here is a good way to get them off you, your children, or your pets. Give it a try. This is great, because it works in those places where it's some times difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark hair, etc. Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20), the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was frequently), and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me. Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging in any way. Insects breathe through their skin. This acts to suffocate them. BUT...this may not be conventional wisdom since Lyme Disease came along... I understand that anything that makes the tick release on its own, also will make it regurgitate whatever amount of blood it has just ingested, and if the tick is Lyme infected, you will be getting a BIG dose of the virus. You should look it up for yourself, but I believe the recommended thing now is to try to remove the tick with as much of the head as you can manage to get. When I was kid in good ole pre-Lyme days, we used to just yank them off, and the worst thing that happened was a small itchy wound for a couple days if some of the head was left behind. --Andy Additional suggestion: I have also read that having poultry loose in your yards (especially chickens and guineas) will keep the tick population way down.--- I learned years ago that by keeping a HIGH level of *B* vitamins in my system that bugs and mosquitoes don't bother me like they do other people. Not sure if this would apply to ticks or not because I have never had the misfortune of finding one on me. There is something about the smell that the High Vitamin B content gives off to the critters that they steer clear of. --Jackie Read the below-linked article for how to safely remove ticks. |

Home Cleaning Recipes
by Jackie Juntti |
| Here are some more ways to not only save MONEY but to eliminate a lot of chemicals in your cleaning work. I also use a 50/50 mix of Hydrogen peroxide and water to clean my kitchen and bathroom counter tops as it kills the bacteria - you know what it does to open cuts on your skin. I spray the tub/shower/toilet and the faucets too with this mixture We need to walk back the path to more natural (and cheaper) cleaning methods instead of all the high priced chemical things that may or may not do as good a job. You need to keep in mind that all those chemicals go down your drains into either your septic tank or the public sewer system. All end up at some point in our water supply and our fish. Which would you rather drink - DRAINO or Vinegar+baking soda+salt? |

Apple Cider Vinegar: A very versatile pet AND people product with natural healing benefits
|
| The claims of apple cider vinegar's health benefits are age-old. And although recent research has not necessarily proven these claims, it has laid the foundation for understanding them. Modern laboratory analysis has indeed found apple cider vinegar to be rich in beneficial phytochemicals. Important substances such as quercetin, a member of the flavonoid group, currently under study for it's role in cancer prevention and suppression of tumor growth are found abundantly in apple cider vinegar. In recent years, pet owners have also discovered the magic of apple cider vinegar in the care of their companion animals. And the uses they have found for this 'sour wine' are numerous and varied. Natural healing Apple cider vinegar kills germs and nourishes the body at the same time, so have a look at some of the many different ways people have been benefiting from the external and internal application of this folk medicine... www.apple-cider-vinegar-benefits.com/home-remedies.html |

A Checklist for Tuning Up Your PC

| You change the oil in your car every 5,000 miles or so. You clean your house every week or two. Your PC needs regular maintenance as well -- especially if you're using Windows and you spend a lot of time on the Internet. Virus checkers need to be updated. Spyware or adware may have sneaked onto your PC and the clutter could be slowing everything down. I have a checklist I follow at the end of every month for keeping my computer properly tuned. The steps may differ slightly, depending on your operating system. Clicking the "Start" button, going to the "Help" section and searching for a feature will show you how to adapt this list to your machine... |

24-hour observation of aircraft travel across the earth's surface
|
| Notice how the quantity of flights rises during daylight and falls at night. This is a 24-hour observation of all of the large aircraft flights in the world (recorded by the plane flight transponders, via Geostationary orbital satellites), patched together and condensed down to about a minute. From space the world looks like a beehive of activity. You could tell it was summer time in the north by the sun's foot print over the planet. You could see that it didn't quite set in the extreme north and it didn't quite rise in the extreme south. We are taught about the Earth's tilt and how it causes summer and winter and have had to imagine just what is going on. In this video the "tilt" is visible. With this 24-hour observation of aircraft travel on the earth's surface we get to see the daylight pattern move as well across the face of the planet. |

Fred Farndon Story: My 50-year Love Affair with Drag Racing
|
| I initially got the racing "bug" doing what a lot of young males did. I hung-out with the neighborhood "gear heads", which at that time raced stock cars. Now, what we are actually talking about is '35 and '40 Ford coupes outfitted with flathead engines. They had a garage and I got to do a lot of the mundane jobs, like sweeping the floor, cleaning parts, and running errands; cool stuff for a 13-year old kid. Toronto Exhibition Fairgrounds had a quarter-mile, paved, oval track, and they had races there every week. Finally, one Friday I was invited to tag along. That was it. I was hooked. The excitement, the engines, and of course, going fast! |

Pets, Vets and Debts. Owners Face Higher Bills, More Medical Options and Tough Decisions About How Much Is Too Much
|
| A generation or two ago, visits to the vet were limited to getting rabies shots and treating the occasional broken leg or bite wound. These days pet owners are offered an alphabet of treatments, from acupuncture, aromatherapy, behavior counseling and chemotherapy to prescription drugs, root canals, surgery and X-rays. Spot, heal thyself, is not an option. |
